Fall 2021 Workshop
September, 2023
After a long break, the ballroom workshop is back! The 2023 Fall Ballroom Workshop will begin September 13th. An email was sent out on September 7th--this is what it included:
Welcome to the Ballroom Workshop! I’m so excited to share this fun experience with you! If you are getting this email, you are in the workshop and you are expected to attend on Monday. Here are a few reminders and information you will need.
Ballroom Workshop begins on Monday, September 11th at 3:10 in the gym. If the gym is ever unavailable, we will move the cafeteria
The dates for the ballroom workshop have had to shift a few times as I have been trying to accommodate the play auditions, and they have changed their dates twice. So make sure you are aware of the final dates:
*We had to skip the 25th due to a school play workshop, but I would love to do Tuesday the 26th if most of you are available. We will talk about that on Monday.
Right now we have 8 more followers than we do leaders. When we have shortage, followers often have to dance by themselves when we switch partners. The more uneven we are, the more often girls are dancing alone. SO—if you know any boys that would like to sign up still to even out our numbers, email me back with their information or have them email me. The sign up sheet is closed, but I will still add 8 more boys to even us out
You do not need to bring anything to workshop, but try to make sure you are wearing comfortable clothes and shoes. For shoes, something light and easy to move in is best. Clunky large shoes can make it difficult to do the steps.
We will be learning Cha-Cha, Triple Swing, Waltz, and West-Coast Swing. Some weeks will build on the previous week, so try to be there each week so you aren’t lost when we come back the next week. Roll will be taken at the workshop. Students who do not show up two weeks in a row without notification to Mrs. Rees will be removed from the rolls.

How do i get involved?
A Ballroom workshop is offered in the Fall, taught by Mrs. Rees. Listen to the announcements for dates and times. Mrs. Giove also teaches a social dance class, which is only offered second semester for the 2021-2022 school year. If you like the workshop, you are strongly encouraged to join her social dance class (particularly if you are male!) If you would like to go deeper in the world of ballroom, I recommend Quickstep Ballroom Studio, located in Sandy. I have many of my former students who have chosen to get a deeper and richer experience in ballroom with this studio, and have worked personally with them. They are FANTASTIC!! Bingham, Copper Hills, and Herriman High also have ballroom teams for when you get to high school.
Why Ballroom?
At your age, there are a lot of things out there competing for your attention--sports, video games, homework, lessons, other pursuits. Why bother with ballroom? Well, like I always say, "If you want to wrestle around with other guys, play sports. But if you want to be with GIRLS, learn to dance!!!" Ballroom is a practical skill you can use throughout your life. It's something you do in high school, college, throughout your adult life and even when you are elderly. Ballroom is unique from other forms of dance like ballet or tap. It has set dances with set steps that are learned by all beginners. Because of this, anyone two people trained in ballroom--even if they are from different studios, states, or countries, can dance together without any choreography or planning. Although set routines and formation dances are a lot of fun and can add a lot of flare, it's those basic steps that are the most important because they are they ones you will use the longest. Ballroom is also a great way to boost confidence and build lasting friendships. Come and try something new--I know you won't regret it!
